Fig. 7 Spore strain variations in high density mycelium of Morchella angusticeps from Michigan.

Single germinating ascospores from the same mushroom were used for inoculum (two per plate); so the variables on a plate were intrinsic to the mycelium rather than due to cultural conditions. The sample is 4 typical plates out of 12 inoculated. The petri plates were 90 mm inside diameter.

(Note. Spores never show such variations. The differences cannot be genotypic and must therefore be phenotypic only.)
