Motive Driven Irrationality
There are two major examples of motive driven irrationality: On the right, there's creationism; and on the left, there's the carbon dioxide fraud. They show a basic problem which is not unique to the left or right. The persons involved draw a conclusion based on motives, and they cannot change it regardless of the evidence. They assume they cannot be wrong, because motives lock in the conclusion. Creationists assume that God cannot be wrong in declaring that life began six thousand years ago without evolution. If evidence shows otherwise, it just means there is something wrong with the evidence. How dinosaurs could have existed six thousand years ago and how fossils could have been encased in rocks in such a short time is not a relevant concern. Let someone else figure it out, because God cannot be wrong. But the Bible does not mention dinosaurs or evolution. Creationism stems from the need to oppose atheists who dominate science. To give an inch is to relinquish ground to the atheists. The carbon dioxide fraud is the same process. The promoters of the fraud not only contradict science; they don't have the slightest contact with science. It is said that Al Gore took two science courses in college and did poorly in them. Senator Barbara Boxer appears to know less science than Al Gore. Yet they are the decision makers on the subject; and their conclusion that carbon dioxide causes global warming cannot be touched by the evidence or science of the subject. They don't just inform us on politics, which is the only area they have ever been involved in; they tell us about the science, technology, statistics and economics, as if they knew something on those subjects which we don't know. They are not qualified to say one word on those subjects. They could not be farther removed from knowledge on those complex, technical subjects. The motive which locks in the conclusion that carbon dioxide causes global warming is the fear that resources are being used up. For some persons, fear eliminates the possibility of rationality being applied to objective reality. When you prove to such persons that they are wrong, they keep pretending anyway, because they don't want to give up a tool for their purpose. To corrupt persons, a fraud is a tool, not an objective reality. There are then second level dupes who have never known any other reality, and they cannot believe they could be wrong no matter how ridiculous the fraud. An obvious example is creationists who have been indoctrinated since they were kids, but it also includes physics students who have always assumed relativity is fact, even after studying years of science which shows the absurdities. Idiot politicians assume carbon dioxide must cause global warming, because it seems so obvious. Since CO2 comes out tailpipes, it must be a pollutant. Why isn't water vapor a pollutant when it comes out tailpipes? Water vapor is three times as strong of a greenhouse gas as CO2. They assume humans have to be the cause of the problem, because everything was so normal until recently. They assume normal is determined by the news. Irrational conclusions serve the function of providing an answer to an intolerable and unsolvable problem. The persons dare not be wrong, because there is no other answer to their problem. This phenomenon of desperately clinging to an irrational conclusion is extremely common in society. It is highly visible in faith healing. Nowdays, faith healing includes a myriad of quack medical fixes. Irrational persons want there to be something more than objective reality as the answer to their problems. Society is reverting to eleventh century charlatanism because of increasing irrationality. Science was in the process of replacing the quackery with rationality. But science deteriorated in corruption leaving a vacuum which was filled with charlatanism. Rationality is no longer the prevailing influence in society. If it were, the carbon dioxide fraud would not be taking over the media and government. The most important point of this whole subject is that the problem is not a disagreement over facts; the problem is an irrational, and hence invalid, standard of operation. A rational standard would increase knowledge and truth. There is no forward motion, because corrupt standards replace rationality. Most basically, rationality means consideration of objective evidence. It also means a reasoning process, where comparisons are made. It means proper representation, which requires explanations including specifics. This process is being short circuited with the carbon dioxide fraud as well as with creationism. In fact, the standard of overwhelming rationality with motives is steamrolling over rationality throughout society. Irrationality is prevailing in society, because people do not understand the corruptness of it. They find it to be exploitable or at least an easy way out. Rationality is demanding, because learned standards are required to objectively evaluate a subject, and much time is required to become properly informed on complex, technical material. It is also demanding because of the truth which exposes all corruptions. Even when people do not understand the corruptness of their own exploitation and domination, they feel threatened by the truth which exposes those vices for what they are. A threat from truth makes irrationality attractive to the unwary. Irrationality is dishonest and destructive. No one has a right to harm or destroy other people. But motive driven irrationality is not assumed to be destructive, because the motive is assumed to justify it. What irrational persons cannot understand is that if their cause were not harmful or destructive, they would not have to be irrational in promoting it. All constructivity is in line with the objective truth of the universe. The only way constructivity can really be guaranteed is by proceeding through the mechanism which aligns realities upon objective reality or truth. Shortcutting the process through irrationality cannot produce a constructive result. Unfortunately, too many persons have not learned that basic moral principle. |
